Rev. Dr. Brian T. Parcel (known to most as Pastor Brian) began his ministry as Lead Pastor @ FUMC.CV on July 1, 2010. Prior to this appointment he served as Lead Pastor at FUMC Santa Maria, CA. from 2004-2010 and Westmont UMC, Pomona, CA. from 1999-2004.

Pastor Brian grew up and graduated from High School in Ventura, CA. He began his journey as a disciple of Jesus Christ as a 14 year old freshman in High School amidst a youth group setting in a Presbyterian Church. As a college student at Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA., Pastor Brian discovered and became a member of the United Methodist Church. During these years of serving on staff at FUMC Natchitoches, LA. as the Youth Director he discerned his call to pastoral ministry. After completion of his Bachelor’s Degree, Pastor Brian came back to the west to attend seminary at Claremont School of Theology. He spent five years at the seminary earning his Masters of Divinity and Doctorate of Ministry Degrees in 2002. Pastor Brian was commissioned as a Probationary Elder in the California Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2002 and Ordained an Elder in Full Connection in 2005.

Pastor Brian’s primary interest in pastoral ministry is leading communities of faith to develop visions & systems that reach beyond the walls of the church and engage new people in new ways. He has demonstrated success at helping churches define their vision & strategy for reaching new people and developing stronger disciples for Christ. Pastor Brian is particularly interested in the multi-cultural settings found in most every major urban center and the ways the church can speak to the issues of color, race, socio/economics, equality, justice, etc. His dream is to lead a church that spans all the barriers our culture often places between individuals and groups of people. This work is his life’s vocation and was the central purpose for his Doctoral Studies which culminated in his thesis: “Called to be Multi-Cultural: New Testament and Religious Education Perspectives to Develop Multi-Cultural Churches.”

Pastor Brian is married to Christi and they have two elementary age children, Landon and Isabella. Together they enjoy the beach, movies, bike riding, playing with their pets and travelling in Mexico. On a rare day away you can most likely find Pastor Brian surfing, playing golf or reading a book.
