Adult Education

Christianity is not a destination, it is a journey. There will never come a day when we arrive at full understanding or full participation in all things Christian. We are constantly learning, growing, assisting others in their growth, serving more, giving more generously, etc. This is the process of discipleship or learning to be followers of Christ. In an odd way the person who has been a Christian for 40 years has just as much to learn and capacity to grow as the person who has been a Christian for four days. True, the learning might be different or deeper depending on where we are on our journey of faith, but it is nonetheless important for each of us to be life long learners of Jesus’ way of life. GROW disciples of Christ

Bible 101 & 201
Ever sat in a Bible study and felt like you knew less than everyone else? Ever sat in church and not know which story the preacher was referring to while everyone else seemed to get it? Ever tried and failed to read and understand the biblical text? Ever felt like it would be good to go back to the basics and relearn important things again? If you answered yes to any of these questions, The 101 courses are for you.
Offered several times a year are Bible 101 & 201. As Christians the Bible is our primary document and that makes our study of it paramount to our faith. United Methodist 101 covers the origins of the church, the principles of the church and how it all fits together.
More than Sunday Supper
Looking for a place to get better acquainted with others? Want to enrich your study time. These potluck suppers are offered every 8 weeks on Sunday evenings. The first hour is for food and fellowship followed by two hours of study time. Topics of study vary from Bible study to enrichment courses.
Disciple 1 & 2 Bible Study
Disciple is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. The study gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. DISCIPLE draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible.

The first study in the program is DISCIPLE I: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a twenty-four week overview of the entire Bible with 12 weeks of Old Testament and 12 weeks of New Testament. DISCIPLE II: INTO THE WORD, INTO THE WORLD A twenty-four week study concentrating on Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. Because the readings are less extensive than Disciple I, there is more time for reflection and greater depth in study.  Completion of Disciple I is required to take this class.

Life Groups
To guide members and friends on the journey of discipleship we recommend becoming part of a LIFE Group. For more information on these groups, click here.

DEVELOP gifts and leaders

Lay Servant Training
The Lay Servant Academy is a comprehensive developmental program for laity that helps people identify their calls to ministry and develop skills in caring, leading and communicating ministries. It is often the turning point for lay people who are seeking to offer significant service to both church and community. A lay servant is a member of the congregation who has completed required courses and has been approved by a district or annual conference committee to conduct worship services, preach, and lead study sessions as requested by the pastor or district superintendent. If you feel called to serve your church in a more formal leadership position this training is for you.
Spiritual Gifts Assessment
Spiritual gifts are not our talents or skills. They are the grace of God at work within us, empowering us to match our deep passions with the world’s deep need. The gifts are given to individuals, but they are given to build and strengthen community and to meet the needs of those around us. Begin the journey. Discover your gifts. Talk about your gifts with others. Strive together to understand your gifts and how you can use them to serve God, your neighbor, and the world. You have been gifted. You have been given a purpose. Every child of God is filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, specially gifted to play a unique and valued role in the body of Christ. No one is without gifts or a purpose. Take the Test
Walk to Emmaus
The walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities, and places of work. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
