Congratulations, Ariana!

The Staff Parish Relations Committee is pleased to announce the hiring of Ariana as the new Director of Finance & Administration, effective July 1, 2019.  Ariana has been serving on the staff of FUMCCV since March 2015, beginning as the Facilities Coordinator and then becoming the Office Manager when her responsibilities were expanded.  Ariana has worked closely with Sue through the years and has earned the trust of Sue and Pastor Brian as a reliable, passionate, hardworking and extremely gifted employee and leader.  Ariana loves FUMCCV and has put her heart and soul into her current job.   Last summer, Ariana was pulled from the church office to oversee some major transitions for the Preschool.  Under her supervision, manual systems were automated, electronic payments were implemented, operational procedures and manuals were updated, staff meetings and training were conducted, a teacher’s break room was created, the school is now on a year-round school calendar, enrollment has increased, and the strong heritage of the school remains intact! Ariana has proven herself well and is more than ready for the role of Director of Finance and Administration.

Welcome, Brian Cox!

Please join the staff in welcoming Brian Cox as our new Office Manager. Brian started with us in May 2018 as part time custodian after retiring in 2014 from his position of Principle Recreation Manager for the City of Chula Vista after 27 years with the city. Brian was born and raised in Newport, RI and attended the University of Rhode Island before moving to California in 1979 to continue his education at California State University Long Beach, where he received his BA and MS Degrees in Recreation Administration. Brian is married with six adult children, five girls and one boy, and his wife Norma, herself a retiree after a 30+ year career with SDGE, works part-time for the Padres. We are excited to have him join the office team!

Children’s Ministry Communion Offering

Children are the greatest mission field. Statistics show that 85% of people who come to Christ do so before the age of 18. We must invest our time and resources where we will see the biggest harvest. This Sunday, the communion offering will support our Children’s Ministry. Your generosity will benefit our children’s programming in the following areas:

Sunday School Average Attendance – 40 children

Vacation Bible School Average Attendance – 100 children

Elementary Summer Camp Average Attendance – 20 children

Easter Eggstravaganza Average Attendance – 150 children

Fall Festival Average Attendance – 150 children

Pentecost

Pentecost is one of the great celebrations of the Christian Church, coming 50 days after Easter.  In the book of Acts we recognize Pentecost as the birth of the church — that means Pentecost is a birthday party of sorts.  Join us for the party! One Worship Service at 10am in the Sanctuary.

A variety of our music groups will perform, Pastor Brian will be preaching, and we will celebrate holy communion as one church family. Following worship there will be an abundance of refreshments on the quad, stick around and enjoy meeting people who regularly worship at other services than you on Sunday morning.

Welcome, Taylor!

FUMCCV is pleased to introduce Taylor Binney, our summer intern, to the congregation! We are excited to have Taylor join our staff this summer as she discerns the call God has placed on her life. Taylor is a 2019 Point Loma Nazarene University graduate with a degree in Education. Originally from Ventura County, Taylor has been involved in the United Methodist Church and on-campus ministries at PLNU for many years. She has been active in leading Discipleship Ministries and has a passion for small group ministry, creative worship, and social justice. We welcome Taylor and are blessed by the gifts and talents that she brings to us this summer.

Thank You, Sue Meyer!

You might have heard that Sue Meyer, our Director of Finance & Administration for the past 17+ years, is retiring at the end of June.  Sunday June 2nd will be a special day of honoring and thanking Sue for her tremendous work at FUMCCV. In each worship service (8, 930, 11) there will be a special presentation and at the end of each worship service Sue will be available in the quad to receive your well wishes. Lots of food will be prepared that day and available on the quad as will a number of gift baskets that we encourage you to fill with gifts of thanksgiving for Sue (what we mean are cards and cash).  Our hope is to put together a healthy “retirement travel fund” that will be used by Sue to take a couple trips back to the Midwest and East Coast to visit extended family and friends.
