Jo’s thoughts on reading the April Digging Deeper book selection

This month’s Digging Deeper book is “Refugia Faith.”  I am really learning a lot from it in several ways: ecological, theological, and in individual action.  It is well written and understandable even though it deals with deep topics.

Please consider reading this book. It is perfect for this month’s theme “In the Garden.” There will be much to discuss when we meet.

If you have not registered for the Book Discussion Group yet, please do so that you get the zoom link for the meeting.

This Month’s Meeting - April 28th

An Invitation to the Digging Deeper Book Discussion Group

Every month in our FUMCCV devotional book, “Where Faith is Found,” there is an option to read a book. The titles are in the Digging Deeper section.

This year, there will be a book discussion group that will meet on Zoom to discuss the book we have read, its connections to the prayers and scriptures of the month, and preview the next book. All the meeting dates, times, and Zoom links for the meetings can be found at:

https://www.fumccv.org/digging-deeper-book-discussion

There are no quizzes or exams. This is a low-pressure, high-grace book group. Please join us! You are also welcome to invite other book lovers you know. For information not found at the link, please contact Jo Birdsell at jobirdsell55@gmail.com

April - The Garden

This Month’s Reading
Refugia Faith: Seeking Hidden Shelters, Ordinary Wonders and the Healing of the Earth (2022) by Debra Rienstra

Information from Barnes & Noble website: Refugia (reh-FU-jee-ah) is a biological term describing places of shelter where life endures in times of crisis, such as volcanic eruptions, fires, or a stressed climate. Ideally, these refugia endure, expand, and connect so that new life emerges. Debra Rienstra applies this concept to human culture and faith, asking, In this era of ecological devastation, how can Christians become people of refugia? How can we find and nurture these refugia, not only in the biomes of the earth, but in our human cultural systems and in our spiritual lives? How can we apply all our love and creativity to this task as never before?
